About TDK Corporation

TDK Corporation is a world leader in electronic solutions for the smart society based in Tokyo, Japan. Built on a foundation of material sciences mastery, TDK welcomes societal transformation by resolutely remaining at the forefront of technological evolution and deliberately “Attracting Tomorrow.” It was established in 1935 to commercialize ferrite, a key material in electronic and magnetic products. TDK's comprehensive, innovation-driven portfolio features passive components such as ceramic, aluminum electrolytic and film capacitors, as well as magnetics, high-frequency, and piezo and protection devices. The product spectrum also includes sensors and sensor systems such as temperature and pressure, magnetic, and MEMS sensors. In addition, TDK provides power supplies and energy devices, magnetic heads and more. These products are marketed under the product brands TDK, EPCOS, InvenSense, Micronas, Tronics and TDK-Lambda. TDK focuses on demanding markets in automotive, industrial and consumer electronics, and information and communication technology. The company has a network of design and manufacturing locations and sales offices in Asia, Europe, and in North and South America. In fiscal 2021, TDK posted total sales of USD 13.3 billion and employed about 129,000 people worldwide.

HVC – Embedded Motor Controllers

The HVC embedded motor controller family was designed for smart actuators and enables the cost-effective realization of powerful and compact DC motor (BLDC or stepper) control in high-temperature environments.

HVC is powered by a 32‑bit Arm® Cortex®-M3 Core, supports several power management modes and integrates a LIN 2.x interface. An integrated Memory Protection Unit (MPU) supports RTOS requirements. The computation capacity supports complex motor control.

Flexible peripherals allow to directly control brush-type, stepper (bipolar or three phase), or brushless direct current (BLDC) motors via integrated half-bridges. Voltage regulators enable the direct connection to a 5.4 V to 18 V automotive power supply.

HAL 39xy – Direct Angle Sensors

New types of Hall-effect sensors do not measure the absolute magnetic field anymore. So-called direct angle sensors capture the field vector by measuring sine and cosine components of the magnetic field. This is possible due to the new 3D HAL technology from TDK-Micronas. Vertical Hall plates measure the magnetic field components in the chip plane and not the components perpendicular to the chip surface. These kind of sensors provide angular and position information directly via an output signal proportional to the measured angle or position.

HAL 15xy – Hall Switches

The simplest application is to use the sensor as a “digital switch”. The magnetic field strength is measured and compared with a fixed threshold level predefined or programmable in the sensor. As soon as this value is exceeded (switching point) the switching state at the output of the sensor changes and the output transistor is switched on or off. Two types of switches are available. 3-wire version with an open-drain output or 2-wire versions with current-coded output.

CUR – Current Sensing

These current sensors are developed for high-power DC and AC measurements in automotive and industrial applications. The sensors are based on the TDK TMR or Hall-effect technology, which have already been proven in existing automotive sensor products and are now paving the way for innovative current-sensing applications.

World's largest portfolio of DC link capacitors

Topologies with inverter circuits for power conversion are becoming increasingly important in automotive electronics. Selecting the right capacitor for the DC link function is key to achieving the best solution in terms of electrical function, mechanical and thermal requirements, and cost optimization.

TDK has the broadest technology and product portfolio for all automotive inverter applications. This includes aluminum electrolytic, hybrid polymer, film and ceramic capacitors. To enable a quick selection of suitable capacitors, TDK has developed a special web page.

Components for the thermal management of BEVs

Batteries need to be thermally monitored to avoid critical conditions during charging as well as during driving, and at the same time to extend battery life. TDK has developed a wide range of special NTC temperature sensors specifically for battery management, featuring precision, long-term stability and high-voltage resistance. In addition to standard types, customer- and application-specific sensors can also be manufactured. This applies in particular to the various mounting options.

CarXield™ - the perfect EMC filter for BEVs

Inverters are used in battery electric or fuel cell vehicles. The semiconductors used in them generate electromagnetic interference through their switching operations when converting energy from direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) and vice versa. With the CarXield™, TDK presents the first standard EMC filter platform for automotive applications and thus a cost-effective, efficient solution to EMC problems. CarXield is available in different variants and can be used at voltages of 500 V DC or 900 V DC with currents up to 400 A @85 °C.

Thanks to the fully validated design, filters with or without busbar are always available. Further customization for your exact application can be made and developed on the fly.
