From February 2027, EU directives will require a product passport for batteries with a capacity of more than 2 kWh. For this so-called battery passport, manufacturers and “distributors” of batteries as well as their suppliers must fulfill a number of requirements: Integration of life cycle data from different systems and different stakeholders into a digital twin, exchange of passports and relevant data via the supply chain and establishing trust about the origin and accuracy of the data provided.
T-Systems has developed a solution to build product passports “as a service” or “on premise” for companies (see image). The challenge: mastering the multitude of semantics, protocols and formats and preparing the right data for the right stakeholders across the various battery lifecycle phases. Data is exchanged between companies via data spaces such as Catena-X. Based on GAIA-X principles, T-Systems also ensures that the origin of the data can be verified and the content of the passports can be digitally certified.
