Longer battery life and more cost-effective development - Swell test bench

In battery development, the lifespan of the cells plays an important role. It is influenced, among other factors, by the initial clamping pressure and the reversible and over the lifespan irreversible swelling pressure of the cells themselves, as well as the module stiffness. To find the best module design, it is necessary to investigate the swelling behavior in lifetime tests – ideally without having to build various real modules. The Accenture swelling setup (see image) can not only provide a very precise constant compression with consistent pressure but can also use force and cell thickness as control parameters, allowing for the simulation of real module behavior in terms of its stiffness. The data can be monitored in real-time, enabling interim evaluations and parameter adjustments at any time during long-term tests.
