POLY-TR-SHIELD: Sustainable innovation for improved battery safety in underrun protection

With POLY-TR-SHIELD, POLYTEC is making electric vehicles safer and more sustainable. This innovative protective solution is integrated directly into the underrun protection and safeguards the vehicle battery in the event of thermal runaway. At the same time, the newly developed thermoplastic composite replaces the critical and controversial mineral mica. The composite sandwich (see image) structure offers impressive high-temperature resistance, excellent insulation and protective properties, as well as high impact and corrosion resistance. Furthermore, POLY-TR-SHIELD reduces weight and the carbon footprint. The development thus combines three key requirements of electric mobility: greater safety, lower resource consumption and sustainable lightweight construction.
