Full Display Mirror (FDM) 4 – The Next Generation of Digital Mirror Technology

The Gentex Full Display Mirror 4 (FDM 4, see image) transforms the rearview mirror into a smart digital display. Thanks to a high-resolution 8-megapixel camera, an improved HD display, and new software, the rearview image dynamically adapts to the driving situation for the first time. Based on additional image information (“hidden pixels”), the system continuously optimizes the displayed image section. “Dynamic View Assist” zooms in or moves the image without moving the camera. This provides more surrounding information during parking maneuvers and in city traffic, while on country roads and highways, the areas relevant for lane guidance and lane changes are prioritized. The FDM 4 thus represents the next evolutionary step in smart vision systems.
