Sharp has developed its new free-form displays (see image) into market-ready products and is now using them to set new standards. According to the exhibitor, these displays offer product designers a number of revolutionary benefits in comparison with common and conventional display forms for a multitude of new areas of application. This technical revolution is based on Sharp's IGZO display technology, which uses an indium gallium zinc oxide instead of silicon. The technical innovation behind the free-form displays developed by Sharp now enables users to avoid gate drivers on the edge of the active area. They can instead be integrated into the matrix of displays and thus enable the display to be given a free form when combined with the IGZO technology. According to the exhibitor, the optimal image brilliance, the forms that can be adapted to suit customer demands and the maximum possible efficiency achieved as a result pave the way towards a new digital era and will radically transform the development of mobile devices, white goods and above all car interiors.
