Continuously improving fuel efficiency and reducing exhaust emissions is one of the most important objectives in the automotive industry. Combining metal and plastic components in technological applications plays an important role in helping companies to achieve this target. The day-to-day production activities carried out by the Mertens Group therefore involve coating parts such as catch hooks, door strikers and boot locks in plastic (see image) by integrating processes from punching, forming and injection moulding technology. The exhibitor is presenting a variety of innovative material solutions for the automotive industry focusing on components for locking, chassis, steering and roof systems at the IZB 2016. Important advantages of composite systems using metal and plastic are their cost effectiveness due to integrated production processes, optimised use of materials, electric conductivity and insulating properties, weight reduction and design flexibility.
